Karin Hammar
______________________________
Swedish Jazz is no longer an insider's tip, nor is
trombonist Karin Hammar.
It was her kinsman, Nils Landgren, who first nud-
ged her into spotlight. Landgren lined up a
women-only jazz ensemble with Karin Hammar,
Anke Helfrich, Eva Kruse and Sandra Hempel
which set her career off.
Her fame continued to spread by way of her own
projects, tours and CD releases with seasoned jazz
stars like Kenny Werner, Tim Hagans, Steve Swallow,
Gary Burton and Maria Schneider. The finishing touch
in Karin Hammars's development was given by gigs
with the WDR Bigband, the EBU Bigband and with the
Jazz Baltica Orchestra at the Jazz Baltica Festival in Salzau, Germany.
After four releases as the "Sliding Hammers" recorded together with her sister, Mimmi, who also plays
trombone, Karin Hammar is now venturing out on her own playing her compositions with a quartet she
assembled in 2007: Jonas Östholm on piano, Tony Overwater on the contrabass and Anders Kjellberg on
drums. This trombonit's quartet presents first-rate jazz made in Sweden.
This is yet another piece of evidence proving that Scandinavia is able to produce far more than just
vocalists when it comes to the unique sound of European jazz.
Her new CD is to be released in Spring 2012.
