Claudia Gómez has along and fruitful musical
career that started in San- Francisco twenty
five years ago, where she earned a reputation
as one of the most graceful and moving singer-
songwriters of the Bay area.
Her mastery of the American jazz idiom, combi-
ned with her fluency in the broad spectrum of Latin
American traditions along with her flawless voice
have allowed her to transcend the conventional
boundaries of genre to create a music universal in
its appeal.
Born into a musical family in Medellín, Colombia- at
the feet of the Andes, between the rainforests and
the Caribbean- Claudia began playing guitar at the age of twelve.
She made her performance debut at age 14 and by the time she was 18, had begun touring her native
country with an all-female group called "Cuarteto Ellas."
After extensive periods of study and peformance in London and Colombia -during which she absorbed the
musical heritages of not only of Latin America (Cuban son, Brazilian samb, Colombian cumbia) but of
Europe as well (particularlyfolk and rock) - Claudia settled into the fertile artistic soil of the Bay area, where
she quickly established herself as a central figure in the latin music community.
While in San Francisco, Claudia recorded three albums as a solo artist: " Claudia Canta Brasil" (Arete Records,
1989), "Salamandra" (Clarity AudioRecordings, 1992) and "Tierradentro", (Green Linnet Records, 1996).
Subsequently, she has continued to expand and hone her skills in arrangement, composition and mastery
of the American art form of jazz, merged with her diverse back ground and tremendous vocal talents,
she has developed a unique musical identity.
In 2002, she moved back to Colombia to delve deeper into her music traditions.
Now she travels the world presenting her uniquely personal interpretation of Colombian music as well
as her own compositions.
In 2004, Claudia recorded "Majagua"- considered by many to be one of the best albums of Colombian
music released that year.
Her most recent production, an exquisite album with a selection of 16 romantic ballads from the Atrato
River (Colombia) "Arropame, Que Tengo Frio" (2010).

Ramón Valle

Ramón Valle ist mit Sicherheit einer der interessantesten Pianisten, die
derzeit im Bereich Modern Jazz zu finden sind.
Was so manchen überrascht, ist, dass in Valles Spiel und in seinen
Eigenkompositionen nur selten seine kubanische Wurzeln hervorblitzen.
Er selbst beschreibt seinen Ansatz als "nicht 100% kubanisch, sondern
als 100% Ramón Valle" – und das bedeutet: mal temperamentvoller
Wirbelwind, mal verspielt-melancholische Einlagen, dann wieder
wunderschöne, mitreißende Melodien und eine unglaubliche
Ausstrahlung, mit der er jedes Publikum im Sturm erobert.
Bereits mit sieben Jahren begann Ramón Valle Klavier zu spielen und
machte sich mit Anfang 20 u. a. durch Festivalauftritte in der
kubanischen und lateinamerikanischen Jazzszene schnell einen Namen.
Solopfade beschritt er schließlich 1993 mit seinem Debütalbum
"Levitando". Chucho Valdés, eine Ikone des modernen Jazz Cubano und
Gründer von Irakere, pries Valle daraufhin als "das größte Talent unter
unseren jungen Pianisten".
Seit 1998 lebt Ramón Valle in Europa. Sein Auftritt beim North Sea Jazz
im Jahr 2000 wurde als die große Entdeckung des Festivals gewertet,
sein Spiel und seine Kompositionen überzeugten auf ganzer Linie. In
den Jahren darauf folgten weitere Auftritte bei renommierten Festivals
wie in Montreux, beim Festival de Jazz Plaza Habana oder in Leverkusen,
als Solopianist oder mit Trio- bis Quintettbesetzung – einmal mit dem
Trompeter Roy Hargrove als begeistertem Gastmusiker.
2003 erlebte Amsterdam die Uraufführung von Valles
Auftragskomposition "Mixed-up Mokum" im Royal Concertgebouw –
einem Stück für zehnköpfiges Ensemble (unter Leitung von Ramón Valle
selbst), das stilistisch zwischen Jazz, improvisierter und klassischer
Musik angesiedelt ist.
Auch weitere CDs hat der Pianist inzwischen in unterschiedlichen
Besetzungen aufgenommen – sechs an der Zahl. "Playground" heißt sein
neustes Werk, eingespielt in dem von ihm bevorzugten Trioformat mit
Omar Rodriguez Calvo am Bass und Schlagzeuger Owen Hart jr.
Mit "Playground" verarbeitet der Musiker und frischgebackene Vater
ganz neue Lebenserfahrungen und -verantwortungen, ebenso wie
Rückblicke auf die eigene Kindheit und andere Erinnerungen. Mit
nimmermüder Spielfreude erzählt er mit seinem Trio musikalische
Geschichten ohne Worte. Jedes Stück, jede Geschichte entwickelt dabei
eine ganz eigene Atmosphäre; lebendig, facettenreich und intensiv
präsentiert sich dem Zuhörer auf "Playground" ein Klaviertrio der
Extraklasse.
